Comfort and care instructions

Comfortable dentistry in Saratoga Springs

Nervous about the dentist? You are far from alone. Tell us what bothers you and we will shape your visit around it, one step at a time.

What is comfortable dentistry?

It is a way of caring for you that puts your comfort first. We listen to what makes you uneasy, explain what we are doing before we do it and give you ways to stay in control. For people with strong fears, sedation may also be an option.

  • You can ask for a break at any time
  • Your dentist explains each step before it starts
  • Kids, teens and adults are all welcome

Who it can help

Some people feel a little tense at the dentist. Others have put off care for years because of a bad past visit. Both are welcome here. Comfortable dentistry may help if you:

  • Feel your heart race in the waiting room
  • Have a strong gag reflex
  • Dislike the sounds, smells or the feel of dental tools
  • Worry about shots or numbing
  • Feel embarrassed about how long it has been since your last visit
  • Have a child who is nervous about the dentist

You never need to explain or justify your fear. Just let us know, and we will work with you.

Ways we keep your visit calm

  1. Start with a talk. Before anything happens, we ask what worries you and what has helped in the past.
  2. Agree on a signal. Raise your hand anytime you need us to stop. We will pause right away.
  3. Know what is coming. Your dentist tells you what each step will feel like and how long it will take.
  4. Go at your pace. If a long visit feels like too much, we can often split care into shorter visits.
  5. Ask about more support. If talking and breaks are not enough, your dentist may suggest sedation dentistry to help you relax.

A few things you can do on your own help, too. Try slow, deep breaths before and during your visit. Bring earbuds and your own music if sounds bother you. Pick a time of day when you feel least rushed.

Cost and insurance

Your cost depends on the care you need and your dental plan. After your exam, we give you an estimate and go over what your insurance is likely to cover before any treatment starts. We work with most major dental plans and accept CareCredit.

FAQ

Questions about comfortable dentistry

Is it okay to tell you I am scared?
Yes, please do. Knowing ahead of time helps us plan your visit and choose the pace that works for you.
It has been years since I saw a dentist. Will you judge me?
No. Many people come back after a long gap. We focus on where you are now and what you want to do next.
How do you help nervous kids?
We use simple words, show kids the tools before we use them and keep the first visits short and upbeat. Parents can share any worries with us ahead of time.
Can I bring someone with me?
Many people find it helps to have a friend or family member nearby. Ask our team when you book so we can plan for it.
