Implant-supported dentures in Saratoga Springs

If your denture clicks, rocks or makes you skip foods you love, it may be time to anchor it. Implant-supported dentures snap onto posts so they hold steady.

What is an implant-supported denture?

It is a denture that clips onto a few implant posts rather than sitting loose on the gums. The implants act like anchors. That keeps the denture from sliding around when you bite down.

  • Can replace a full arch or part of one
  • Some styles snap out for cleaning, others stay fixed
  • Often uses fewer implants than missing teeth

Is this a good fit for you?

This option is often a match for people who already wear a denture and are unhappy with how it stays in. It can also help if you are about to lose most of your teeth in one arch and want something steadier from the start.

  • Your lower denture lifts when you talk or eat
  • You use paste or powder every day and still feel it move
  • You avoid apples, steak or corn on the cob
  • You still have some healthy teeth and want a partial that holds better

Your dentist will check your jawbone and gums with an exam and x-rays. Bone tends to shrink after teeth are lost, so you may need a bone graft before posts can go in. If implants are not right for you, a well-made traditional denture is still a good choice.

How it comes together

  1. Planning visit. Your dentist looks at your mouth, reviews x-rays and asks how you want your new teeth to look and feel. You will get a clear plan and timeline.
  2. Clearing the way. If you still have failing teeth in that arch, those come out before the posts go in.
  3. Placing the implants. A small number of posts go into the jaw while the area is numb. This may be done in our office or by a specialist we partner with, based on your needs.
  4. Healing. The bone bonds with the posts over a few months. You can usually wear a temporary denture so you are never without teeth.
  5. Your new denture. A custom denture is made to fit over the posts. Your dentist adjusts it until your bite feels right.

Two main styles

A snap-on denture clips onto the posts and comes out for cleaning. A fixed denture is attached in place and only your dentist removes it. Each has tradeoffs, and we will help you weigh them.

Daily care

Clean around each implant every day with a soft brush. If your denture snaps out, take it out at night, rinse it and brush it gently. Fixed styles need special floss or a water flosser to clean underneath. Come in for routine visits, where we look over the posts and swap worn clips as needed.

Cost and insurance

Your cost depends on the care you need and your dental plan. After your exam, we give you an estimate and go over what your insurance is likely to cover before any treatment starts. We work with most major dental plans and accept CareCredit.

FAQ

Questions about implant-supported dentures

How is this different from a regular denture?
A regular denture sits on your gums and is held by suction or paste. An implant-supported denture locks onto posts in your bone, so it tends to feel more secure when you chew.
What if a few of my natural teeth are still healthy?
Often, yes. A partial version can fill gaps while keeping your healthy teeth. Your dentist will look at which teeth are strong enough to keep.
What is healing like?
Expect some soreness and swelling for several days after the posts go in. Eat soft foods for a while and follow your aftercare sheet. Full healing of the bone takes a few months.
How long will it last?
With steady home care and checkups, the posts often hold up for a long time. The denture part wears with use, and the clips or liners may need to be replaced from time to time.
